You can tell you’re having charging port problems when the device takes either too long to charge or doesn’t seem to recognize that it’s plugged in. Of course, this could also be due to some other issues. Dust and debris might build up inside the port, so it is important to keep it clean. A Q-tip with a bit of rubbing alcohol can take care of that easily enough. If a clogged port isn’t the problem, it might be the charger or the outlet you are using. Switching these around might be able to resolve the issue.
As far as software options go, a reset might help the device recognize the charger. Just hold the Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo appears. After it reboots, try plugging it in again. Another software solution you can use if all else fails is a full system restore through iTunes:
- Make sure all of your data are backed up on iTunes or iCloud.
- Plug in the device to a computer and launch iTunes.
- Click on the iPad icon.
- In the Summary section, click on Restore iPad. Then click Restore on the popup.
The device should then reset itself to factory settings. If that still doesn’t work, then you’ll need repairs on the charger port hardware.
