It’s no secret that your battery becomes less efficient as you charge and recharge your phone. Usually when you first take it out of the box, the battery easily lasts the whole day. After 500-600 charges your battery begins to severely degrade.
The low power mode on your iPhone is a temporary solution, but you’ll eventually have to resort to carrying an external battery pack around or sit by an outlet all day. There’s no way to know how many times you’ve actually charged your iPhone, however Apple implemented a feature in iOS where you can check on your battery’s state of quality.
The older your iPhone is, the more likely your battery’s maximum capacity has already degraded. As Apple continues to release new iOS updates – your phone will need to use more processing power to serve that new software. This accelerates the speed at which power leaves your phone.
If you open up Settings and scroll down – there’s a row named Battery (with a green battery symbol sitting to the left of it). If you click Battery Health, on the next page you will see your battery’s Maximum Capacity and Performance Capability.
Maximum Capacity
Brand new, out-of the box phones, should read a maximum capacity of 100. Older phones can begin to drop to 90% or <80%. After using the battery for so long, the amount of energy that the battery can hold begins to diminish. Also, the rate at which your phone can hold its charge begins to diminish.
Peak Performance Capability
If your iPhone’s battery is properly managing peak performance, you will get a message that reads “Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance”.
If your iPhone is experiencing unexpected shutdowns and is constantly throttling while loading applications for example, your battery is not able to meet the level of quality your iPhone’s performance requires. You will see a message that reads “This iPhone has experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery was unable to deliver the necessary peak power. Performance management has been applied to help prevent this from happening again.”
If you are receiving the latter message, you should seriously consider replacing that battery. Get in touch with the experts at NYC Mobile Device Doctors and we’ll replace it for you today.
