The most common way to charge the iPhone is through the charger port located at the bottom of the smartphone. Apple’s iPhone can be charged with any Lightning cable. Here at NYC Mobile Device Doctors, we recommend the Apple certified ones as they have been tested to ensure maximum charging speed.
Apple introduced wireless charging in its iPhones starting with the iPhone 8. Since then, every Apple iPhone comes standard with wireless charging. While many are not aware of this feature, it is actually extremely useful. All you need is a wireless charging mat and simply by placing your iPhone on the mat it will begin to charge.
Apple has stated that in the future they intend to remove the charging port at the bottom of the iPhone and make wireless charging the standard. There are already some cars that come with wireless charging in the center console as a standard option.
Many issues with iPhones can be resolved with a simple reset. We recommend turning off your iPhone, waiting about 2-3 minutes and then turning the iPhone back on. Once you have done this try connecting the iPhone to the charger again – this often fixes the issue.
Whether you are using your phones charger port or a wireless charging pad, there are cables involved. This is why here at NYC Mobile Device Doctors, we recommend you take out all the cables make sure there are no issues with them and they are not frayed, and then plug them back in. Once you do so, try charging your iPhone once again. We find that reconnecting the charging cables often fixes the issues many of our customers are struggling with.
If you have another iPhone charger at home or you have a friend you can borrow one from, it pays off to try a different charger in a different outlet. By doing so, you are able to pinpoint whether it is your iPhone or your charger.
Oftentimes, the reason people are not able to charge their iPhones is because there is something inside the charger port. Take a flashlight, point in inside the charger port and look for any debris. Apple recommends using compressed air to clean out your iPhone’s charger port. Here at NYC Mobile Device Doctors we also like to use an anti-static brush or a specialized brush – we find both to work very well. Once you have cleaned out the charger port, try reconnecting it to iPhone charger and see if it works.
If you are using a wireless charger, we recommend taking off the case. If you are using a case, it may block the phone’s ability to use the wireless charging feature. Once the case is off, slowly move the phone around the wireless charging mat to see if it starts charging.
